Overview
Data centre design concerns power distribution and redundancy (A/B feeds, UPS, generators), cooling capacity, fire suppression, physical access control and diverse network entry. Uptime Institute tiers describe the level of concurrent maintainability and fault tolerance.
Colocation shifts facility responsibility to a provider while leaving equipment, network and access management with the customer, another shared responsibility boundary worth documenting.
Security considerations
- Control and log physical access, including contractor and delivery access to cages and racks.
- Separate out of band management networks and secure console access physically.
