Overview
Data governance assigns owners and stewards to data domains, classifies data by sensitivity, defines retention and disposal, and documents lineage and permitted use. It underpins both privacy compliance and any trustworthy analytics.
Classification is where it becomes practical: sensitivity labels drive encryption, sharing restrictions and DLP policy automatically rather than relying on user judgement each time.
