Overview
A Team is an Entra ID group with a SharePoint site, a group mailbox and channels. Chat messages are stored in a hidden mailbox folder, which is why eDiscovery and retention span several services.
Voice adds another dimension entirely: calling plans, direct routing, session border controllers, emergency calling and call quality monitoring.
Security considerations
- Govern guest access and external federation, and control who may create Teams.
- Apply retention and DLP to chat and channel messages, not only to email and files.
